description:

This feature class represents food facility locations that have been closed at least once due to critical health code violations in Baltimore county since January 2022. Closure records were obtained from the Environmental Health Services' Envision Database through a SQL query. Data was then processed and geocoded through FME. The result is a point feature class with unique restaurant locations and a geodatabase table feature with a unique row for each closure occurance. Locations are symbolized and represented by the field MONTHS_SINCE_LAST_CLOSURE. These datasets are related through a 1-to-Many relationship using the unique FACILITY_ID. This realtionship is what allows users to explore a restaurants closure history by selecting a point on the map. Data is updated on a daily basis.

Inspections are routinely conducted, but may also occur as a result of a complaint or as a follow-up to a previous closure inspection. Inspections represent a “snapshot” of the findings at that particular date and time.If a critical violation is discovered during an inspection that is not corrected immediately, the restaurant will be required to close until all critical violations are corrected. It is not uncommon for a closure event to be resolved in a single day. This dashboard displays Baltimore County restaurants that have experienced closure due to a critical violation since January 1st, 2022. This includes restaurants that have since been reopened. A restaurant simply appearing on this dashboard does NOT indicate it is currently closed, but rather that it experienced a closure event since January 1st, 2022. Restaurants with no health-related closure events during this time will not be shown. The dashboard does not track change in ownership between closure events. A change in ownership will not remove a restaurant from the dashboard. However, a restaurant will not inherit any closure events from a previous restaurant that was in the same location, as they are considered two different restaurants.

The list of critical violations that would result in closure includes:

• Food items obtained from an unapproved source or using an unapproved process

• Spoilage and/or contamination of food

• Pest infestation

• Employee(s) working while ill

• Not properly washing hands

• Not cooling products properly or not approved to cool products

• Cold foods held at improper temperatures and/or insufficient refrigeration

• Hot foods held at improper temperatures and/or insufficient hot holding equipment

• Food(s) not cooked to proper temperature(s)

• Food(s) not reheated to proper temperature(s) or not approved to reheat products

• Unapproved water supply or positive bacteriological result

• Insufficient hot and cold running water

• Unapproved water supply

• Sewage backup or overflow

Details such as the restaurant name, date of closure(s), reason for closure(s), and reopen date(s) are available by selecting a restaurant from the map or list.
